This New Year has brought us a star in its first week. I’m sure you’ve now heard of Ted Williams, the homeless man with the golden voice. Watch the new team at the CBS Early Show wow us with both the first exclusive interview with Ted and today’s interview with his 92-year-old mother. Here he was last week holding a sign begging for change, but hoping really that someone would ride by and help him pull himself up. Lo and behold, newspaper reporter Doral Chenoweth (always one to give some loose change to the homeless people he comes across) was the angel Ted needed. What I’ve gotten from this amazing story at the start of this New Year, is to keep my eyes and heart open to how I can help a fellow human in need, and perhaps, help them realize their American Dream.
So, we’re five days into the New Year. How’s that new diet working? There’s the Atkins Diet, the Dukan Diet, the South Beach Diet, the Beverly Hills Diet, the New Evolution Diet, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, … I’ll give them all an A for publicity and a B for effort, but how about just eating sensibly and exercising regularly? To me, good health isn’t complicated, it is as simple as this: eat a lot of fruits and vegetables (no sodas!) and exercise until you feel good. When the name brand, fad diets fail you, try this simple Life 101 approach for a month. Then, let me know how you feel. 
The fruitcake is the laughing stock of Christmas foods. Legendary Tonight Show host Johnny Carson used to joke that there is really only one fruitcake in the world, it is just passed from family to family.
Top 5 resolutions: Get in shape. Spend more time with friends and family. Stop smoking. Get out of debt. Enjoy life more. All that sounds good, but the quickest fix I know to living your best life is to allow yourself to be yourself. So in 2011, BE YOU! The rest will follow.
A new year awaits you. As you head into the first week of your year, watch this video of a bird hatching in a human hand. It is simply amazing. Though the universe is timeless, I think of the new year like a blank page — it is filled with opportunity. Whether or not you’re one to make new year’s resolutions… just decide that this year you’re going to fly! My promise to you is I’ll be here everyday finding things that make you think, make you thankful, and, hopefully, make for some fun. Happy New Year from me to you.
