Life 101 – Bruce’s tips for beating the winter blues

Every winter as the snow piles up, we all start getting what I call “wacky shacky” (bug-eyed hysteria from being holed up in the house.) I’m sitting here right now day-dreaming about working in my garden! So, I thought I’d share a few of my Life 101 ideas to beat back the doldrums of the cold, dark months:
#1 dream about plans for spring. Order seeds, plan your vegetable garden, or simply get out pictures of your yard in summer and scheme.
#2 buy yourself the thing you didn’t get for Christmas. Many stores now have up to 90% off. Yesterday, I bought myself a new hat at Barney’s for dimes on the dollar and grinned all the way home.
#3 pay off a debt, even if it’s returning “borrowed” things from friends (the saw in my basement that is Bev’s, the Joel Osteen CD that belongs to Jen.)
#4 book a cheap winter getaway. My friend Barbara Corcoran blocks out a weekend and books a “last minute” deal on a site like Travelocity a few days before departure. She always has cheap fun on her mystery jaunt. Can’t afford a trip? Go bowling. Bowling attracts fun people and it is a sport that even your grandma will enjoy.
#5 make your nest nice! Jump start your spring cleaning, organize your junk drawer, rearrange the furniture in your living room. Do something that freshens up your house and you’ll put a smile on your face.
