Life 101 – The Fair

Last night, I went to the Dutchess County Fair: I rode the Ferris wheel and went into the lame Haunted House, saw some adorable animals including the suckling piglets at left, played the water gun game and lost to a kid who was definitely a professional. Having read Alyssa Giacobbe’s great piece in Travel & Leisure on the “Strangest State Fair Food”, I decided I wanted to eat something really exotic. Her article had it all from deep-fried pig ears to worm-covered candied apples, from smoked lizard dipped in barbecue sauce to fudge-covered scorpion. What did I end up with? Falafel! Now, that’s exotic.
