Today is the first day of the National Twins Day celebration in Twinsburg, Ohio. This year’s festival has a Western theme: Twins Round-Up, y’all!. Beware though, you do have to be a registered twin (is there a twin database I’m unaware of out there?) to attend the festival. So for all of us unregistered twins and non-twins out there, here’s a super montage of all things twin-related: famous historical twins, Mary Kate and Ashley, and the old school beer commercial twins. Happy Twin Day!
Holidays – National Twins Day
Gossip! – SYTYCD Semi-Final
I’ll secretly be glad to see this season of So You Think You Can Dance come to an end next week. The new format of the show (competitors dance with so-called All-Stars, kind of Dancing with The Stars-esq) didn’t add much to the competition, and two of my favorite dancers had to leave the show due to injury. The only interesting competitor was B-Boy Jose, and he simply didn’t have the training to keep up with the Top 4, who performed last night. Like Idol, this show’s getting tired. It’s disappointing, especially considering Emmy winning choreographer Mia Michaels is a regular on the show.
Giveaways – My tomato crime spree!

Wagon full of my homegrown tomatoes.
Just got back from the post office, where I was overnighting another box of veggies to my octogenarian grandparents in South Carolina. When the postal clerk asked me: “Does your package contain anything liquid, perishable, fragile or potentially hazardous?” I looked her in the eye and said, “no.” My grandma wants her tomatoes! I just researched my crime in U.S. Postal Regulations: “Fresh fruits and vegetables are nonmailable unless presented in a dry (not dried) condition. Other perishable foods that are capable of easily decomposing or that cannot reach their destination without spoiling are nonmailable. Packaging must be strong and securely sealed as required in DMM 601.1–8.” I’m breaking the law! I may be arrested! Will I spend (13 days) with Lindsay? I’m going to dare fate and try it again. I’ll send a box of organic tomatoes to the first person who writes to tell me their favorite tomato dish.
Dinner Party Talk – Burlesque
An instant camp classic.
Here’s the sneak preview of Cher and Christina Aguilera in their upcoming theatrical romp, Burlesque. Cher, I suppose, couldn’t get the Vegas out of her blood after her run there and Christina, I suppose, wants a movie star turn, but… WHY?! Besides Christina’s pipes, this has “Showgirls” written all over it. And isn’t THAT MESS like the most made fun film of all time or something? I mean, “what kind of pique turn is that?!”
Pet Fun – Rainy Day Games from Dogster
Though the weather outside is, well, completely sunny, the forecast for NYC is often is rain, rain, rain. My dog Wes hates getting his paws wet on rainy days, and we often miss our walks to the park when the weather’s bad. Most dogs get a little restless (read: mischievous) when cooped up inside all day, and luckily for me and Wes, Dogster has a great list of 10 things to keep your pooch entertained indoors. Wes and I are going to try the Kibble hunt (place small piles of your dog’s food around the house so he or she can “hunt” for it) next time it rains. Though I’m not actually sure how much I’d appreciate someone hiding bits of my dinner all over the house…And cue the adorable dog video.
Holidays – National Watermelon Day
A wow of a watermelon carving!
Have a slice or two of watermelon today to celebrate National Watermelon Day. The watermelon in my garden isn’t ready yet, so I’m going out for a watermelon salad. Before I do, I’ll suggest you take a look at these 75 incredible watermelon carvings. They will blow your mind!
American Fun – Shark Week!
It’s Shark Week on Discovery…so, why not take a moment and sharkify yourself? Yes, a five foot sand shark did make an appearance on a Jersey shore beach yesterday, terrifying screaming beach goers, but did you know that of the 80 some million water-activity participants each year, only a handful fall prey to shark attacks? Further, while you have a 1 in 4,473 chance of dying from falling out of a bed, chair or other furniture, sharks did not even make the list. Though death by hornets, wasps, bees and dogs did. So, why are we so scared of sharks? Um, maybe because of this?
Dinner Party Talk – Opentable.com
If you haven’t tried and loved Opentable.com, it’s time. I just recommended the site to my mother’s friends who were visiting New York City, and they absolutely adored it. But it’s not just for NYC, it’s in other major cities too. Not only can you make restaurant reservations online, you can search by neighborhood, cuisine and how much you’re willing to spend. There are also more creative search categories, like Kid Friendly or Romantic. It’s like Yelp meets Urbanspoon with the table-guaranteeing power of the snobby maitre d’. Enjoy your dinner!
