Dinner Party Talk – For your weekend

What?!

Grammy Whammy. Lady Gaga arrived in an alien egg; Justin Bieber took home a goose egg; and Christina Aguilera fell and was egged by critics. I’m gaga for Gaga, happy to say I don’t have Bieber fever, and I feel real bad for Christina. First, she makes up new words for the National Anthem at the Superbowl and then she falls down at the Grammys. I think America owes her an apology. Why should a talent like that have people take pleasure in her fails? Shame on you, schadenfreuders!
That bitch won! The 135th annual Westminster Dog Show picked its winner and she’s the fittingly named Grand Champion Foxcliffe Hickory Wind. “Hickory” (to her friends) is a Scottish Deerhound, and she, like others in her breed, does not fetch nor play tug nor protect your family. But for dog that looks good and loves to run, she’s Best in Show.
Bad nanny. According to the Daily News, not so super nanny Annaliese Brucato was arrested and charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child for forcing antihistamine into a 4 ½ month old girl. She was caught by surveillance cameras set up by the little girl’s parents. Attention babysitters: we are watching you.
Bad Tiger! If paying a gazillion dollars in his divorce settlement wasn’t bad enough, disgraced golfer Tiger Woods now has to pay a “hefty fine” for hocking up a loogie on the course of the Dubai Desert Classic. Tiger apologized via Twitter: “It was inconsiderate to spit like that and I know better. Just wasn’t thinking and want to say I’m sorry.” Um, just wasn’t thinking? Bet he’s said that before.
Trend watch. I’m heading to California soon, so thought I’d check out the latest West Coast fads. According to the LA Times, the rage is a vaginal steam bath. Based on an old Korean health treatment, nude women are paying $50 to squat on open-seated stools while a pungent brew of mugwort tea and herbs from a boiling pot below steam cleans the hoo-ha. Supposedly, this reduces stress, fights infection, regulates menstrual cycles, and aids fertility. I called. They don’t do men.
Dora the XXXplorer. Did you hear about the mother in Queens who bought her two young sons the Nickelodeon All-Star Sports Day DVD at Toys “R” Us? Yep, she sat down with her sons to watch Dora the Explorer and her pal Diego do their thing and instead got an eyeful of Hush Hush Entertainment’s Bubble Butt Bonanza No. 17. I could ask how’d that video get in there, but instead, I’ll ask, why does nothing like that ever happen to me?!
Now, eat your dinner.

Life 101 – Spring has sprung

For several weeks, I thought someone had stolen my trashcan. It had lived for years at the top of my farm’s driveway and then suddenly it was gone. SO, here’s today’s Catskill scene after two days finally above 60 degrees. Forget tulips, my yard is bloomin’ trashcan! But CAN my sweet flowers be far behind?

What I’m Doing – Shark Tales

Barbara Corcoran, me, and our new book Shark Tales

Some of you might have noted my posts have been fewer over the last couple weeks. I’m on deadline for my new book (details to come on that later), but yesterday I had the privilege of working with Barbara Corcoran to record the audio to our new book Shark Tales, the story of Barbara’s rise from the $1000 loan from a boyfriend to her billion dollar business. You’ll hear more about the book in the coming weeks as she prepares to launch the 2nd season of ABC’s Shark Tank on March 25th. But you’ll definitely want to order the audio book by Listen & Live audio. It’s fun (and hilarious) to hear Barbara telling her story and doing the voices of everyone from Donald Trump to Shark Kevin O’Leary. She’s amazing and the story will inspire you.

Life 101 – Craft box

While making my Valentine cards, I realized that every house should have a craft box, and the winter is the perfect time to put one together. I keep my crafts-from glue gun to glitter- in a variety of vintage wooden toolboxes that I found at garage sales. Having the craft supplies out and readily available often inspires creativity, and nothing says fun like a pile of glitter. (Tip: search out a Michael’s craft store coupon on-line to get a discount on your creative supplies.) Oh, and mark your craft calendars: Easter is April 24th.

Holidays – Happy Valentine’s!

Happy Valentine’s Day, everybody! I was on PIX 11 with the gorgeous Debra Alfarone this morning… If you missed it, it was FUN. I crafted and concocted from inside of a VW Bug in Debra’s “Alt Side” segment. Watch it here. I included a lot of advice for you last minute panickers! And for the ultimate last minute idea: my Valentine’s Day fortune teller. It’s a cheap, easy and fun folded game that helps you show your love AND save face. Directions are on the PIX 11 site. Remember, most of all, look in the eyes of your love and say I LOVE YOU!

Gossip! – Bruce in Daily News Gatecrasher

Set your kids up to make you a Valentine keepsake.

Yesterday on MSNBC I talked the DOs and DON’Ts of Valentine’s. (At left, DO set your kids up to get crafty!)

In today’s New York Daily News, Frank Digiacomo’s Gatecrasher offers up a fun backstage moment between the outrageously talented Johnny Weir and the outrageously talented Lady Gaga. He also offers up this Valentine tidbit on me:

… and Bruce Littlefield doesn’t blush easily either
Bruce Littlefield doesn’t need a lousy bow and arrow to play Cupid – he’s got science on his side! We hear the lifestyle author and designer has been filling orders to create custom Valentine’s Day cards for a few of his married lady friends. Instead of purple verse, the cards come with a blue Viagra pill.

Anybody want me to make ’em one?

What I’m Doing – TV for Valentine’s

Always finding holiday fun in Home Goods.

PIX 11 Morning Show, February 14th, time to be announced… I’m crafting from the inside of a VW Bug in a hilarious segment with Debra Alfarone called “Alt Side.”
Enjoy your weekend. Get something special for your Valentine! But most important: SAY SOMETHING SPECIAL to your Valentine.

Dinner Party Talk – For the weekend

What?!

He’s back. Fox debuted the first teaser for X Factor, Simon Cowell’s new talent show that will be on our TVs this fall. Anyone over the age of 12 is eligible to audition, but the big news is that the winner will take home a $5 million record deal, the largest grand prized ever promised for a TV show. “Doe, a deer, a female deer; Ray, a drop of golden sun; Me, a name I call myself….” Don’t worry, I’ll be ready.
In crazy news… I’m now a news junkie for WLKY, Louisville, Kentucky’s CBS affiliate. This week they reported: a 45-year-old man was caught bippity, boppity, booping himself while watching the America’s Best Championships Cheer & Dance Competition at the Fair & Expo Center and another man was searched after a traffic stop and found to have a “small bag” of crack cocaine hidden in the foreskin of his summer sausage!
Literary stars. It was announced this week that Bristol Palin is working on her memoir. While I’m waiting for that intellectual tome, I’ll bide my time reading Jersey Shore’s Jenni “JWOWW” Farley’s dating guide, “The Rules According to JWOWW.” Yes, following in the high-heeled steps of Snooki’s masterpiece, JWOWW is out with romance advice, like this winner: “Stop Drinking If You Vomit. If you puke it up, don’t put more in. Vomiting is a signal that your body can’t take the amount of alcohol that you have consumed. Call it quits for the evening and go clean yourself up at home.” Could this be the best self-help book of all time? I just checked Amazon and it is currently #1 in “Non-fiction – Culture.”
My Local Weather Girl. High Falls cutie Priscilla Pomerantz has made international news this week due to a very serious allergic condition the 9-year-old has to cold! Priscilla, who has been diagnosed with cold urticaria, gets hives from head to toe and has trouble breathing when she is exposed to temperatures less than 68-degrees. But Priscilla looks on the bright side. She told the Today show’s Matt Lauer that there are some advantages: no snow shoveling or walking the dog in winter! So, stop your whining people! It’s cold in February.
Valentine’s Tip. Don’t tell your date you picked the restaurant because you wanted to use the 2-for-1 coupon before it expires.
Now, kiss your love and eat your dinner!

Giveaways – Shark Tales

My new book is out. It’s the inspiring true story of Barbara Corcoran–real estate mogul, ABC Shark Tank star and Today Show real estate contributor–and her best advice for anyone starting a business. A continuation of our best-seller, Use What You’ve Got, Shark Tales is down-to-earth, frank, and as heartwarming as it is smart. After reading it don’t be surprised if you find yourself thinking, “If she can do it, so can I.” And nothing would make Barbara happier.

Here’s a little contest: anyone who orders from Barnes & Noble (or anywhere else!) between now and the 2nd Season Premiere of ABC’s Shark Tank on March 25th and forwards me a receipt of purchase, will be entered to win an autographed copy and Barbara will answer one of your questions or give you her advice…about anything. Just send to me at bruce@[myname].com. You’ll love the book. Promise. And if you haven’t signed up for my daily RSS feed. Please do. You’ll love it too. Promise.

Gossip – For Your Consideration

For Your Consideration!

My friend and neighbor Melissa Leo, the Meryl Streep of the indies, has now stepped into the mainstream and it seems she’s ruffling a few peacock feathers. After stellar performances in 21 Grams and Frozen River, her role in this year’s The Fighter has earned her deserved high praise and numerous awards, including a nomination for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. This week she’s taking heat for placing her own “For Your Consideration” ads in the trades. For all those Hollywood types poo-pooing the move. I say, “Get a life! What’s wrong with a girl believing in herself and having a little fun?”
