First, let me say Woohooooooooo!
The election is over AND we picked a WINNER!
Next, let me welcome the first snowstorm of the season: The infamous Nor’easter known as “Athena.” This is my assistant Jessica’s first snowstorm in NYC! There she is sitting with Westminster on the couch in my office, watching the blizzard come down outside. If you look closely, you’ll see that we’re working on my new book… Even with snow, it’s a great day! Woohoo!
Life 101 – Here it comes!
Life 101 – Go Vote!
Lyndon B. Johnson: “The vote is the most powerful instrument ever devised by man for breaking down injustice and destroying the terrible walls which imprison men because they are different from other men.” Um, Lyndon, today we say “people.”
And people, either way this election goes–regardless of differing philosophies, beliefs, political views, and taste in fashion and food–I like you. I’m happy to be your friend.
P.S. I voted. Did you?
New York, New York
I love New York. It’s been good to me and to a lot of New Yorkers. As Mayor Michael Bloomberg has said, “No place epitomizes the American experience and the American spirit more than New York City.” Let’s talk neighbor to neighbor. NYC is going through a tough time post Sandy. Downtowners are having to find housing uptown. Many of these will be long term refugees because the damage is so extensive. If you can help host someone, you might post it on your Facebook page. (Our guest is moving in tonight!) For those who wish to donate goods and services to assist New Yorkers who suffered damage from Hurricane Sandy, visit Aidmatrix. Those who wish to give monetary donations, visit the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. And, my friends, after this storm and this election, can we get back to being good neighbors to each other? Please.
Life 101 – FrankenStorm!
Oh, Sandy! Not that Sandy or that one either. I’m talking about the one wreaking havoc on the East Coast! I’m safely hunkered down (by the floor to ceiling windows) in my NYC apartment. And it’s looking WINDY! I just watched a trashcan fly down Broadway and can see the crane dangling atop One 57th Street. Sending good thoughts to all in her path and particular thanks and well wishes to all our first responders. You are true heroes.
Gossip! – Wes & Bruce Go Banking
Since Citibank made news today, thought I’d tell you why I left Citibank after 20 years. I found Ulster Savings Bank… a bank that remembers my name, always has a treat for Westminster, and personally looks after my finances. Life 101 Advice: Find a local bank with friendly people that gives you personalized service. Here’s a little modeling Westminster and I did at the farm… I hear it’s going up in the bank soon. Now, Westminster can even leave his photo I.D. at home!
Life 101 – Watch this!
I’m on deadline… so entertain yourself with this! (Trust me, I wouldn’t waste your time or lead your astray!) Do yourself a favor and take three minutes to watch The Bear, an incredible short movie by Jean-Jacques Annaud. There isn’t a word spoken, but I guarantee it will hold your attention! A real inside look at the life and times of a bear. My question for Jean-Jacques: How in the heck did you capture this on film?!
Life 101 – Eating Well
A few years back I had the yummy joy of traveling with Karma Chow creator and celebrity chef Melissa Costello. (We were swimming with wild dolphin and she was sharing her great food!) She’s out this week with The Karma Chow Cookbook her delicious collection of 125+ recipes for the growing number of people embracing more plant-based meals. As personal chef to celebrity fitness guru Tony Horton, creator of the bestselling P90X® fitness system, Melissa knows her stuff. And knowing her and, well, looking at her is proof positive, that eating well is being well! Congrats Melissa! And thanks for the great ideas.
