When I was a kid growing up in South Carolina, I always made Valentines… for everyone in my class. It made me happy. This year I made Valentines and sent them to a few of my eldest sweethearts. I felt great joy making them and it makes me happy to know friends will soon open them and smile. Maybe you’ll make a few too?

Greet those you encounter with a smile. Besides being super affordable, it’s a last minute Valentine gift that keeps on giving.
You’ve heard the saying, “Time heals all wounds.” This time last year I was recovering from back surgery and couldn’t take my yearly ski trip with Scott and our pal Barbara Corcoran to #Sundance. As I recovered in bed, I shook off the feeling that I’d never ski again by making my mantra a quote from Buddha: “Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so let us all be thankful.” See the joy in our faces at the FUN we had this year? So, yes, time does heal wounds. But during our adventure, I made note of a blind skier, a legless skier, an armless skier, and I realized that it’s not just time that heals wounds, it’s also determination. As you face the mountains in your life, I give you this Life 101 mantra: “I am too positive to be doubtful, too optimistic to be fearful, and too determined to be defeated.”

Stockings give you the chance to think of the individual and what they like and make it special for them. I believe all stockings should have a something sweet, something neat, something fun, and something sentimental. Inside Brooke’s stocking is a retro Hulk Hogan finger puppet. I think she loved it. Some ideas for you. Did your teen just get a car? How about a lot of quarters for the car wash? Does your six-year-old love to draw? How about art supplies? Does your aunt love to write letters? How about some gorgeous stationary and pens? These let the person know that you know them. And don’t forget your pets! There’s another thing that stockings are great for… random acts of kindness. This year I made little burlap stockings to give out to neighbors, elderly folks I meet, and my favorite cashier at the grocery store. Watch the Better show and find out how to make them.
TLC’s Ereka Vetreni and I had fun doing some lifestyle segments for @bettertvshow and drinking .@SutterHome !) Well, our “unwinding” tip seems to have made it onto E!’s #TheSoup. Go ahead and watch. Not sure whether I should blush or not.
It’s almost Halloween, so let’s go camping… I mean CAMPy. For your Halloween displeasure and for grossing out your friends, Lizz Winstead and I whipped up for Howdini.com one of my personal favorite things to take to dinner parties: My infamous Kitty Litter Cake. Yep, I know what you’re thinking right now… that Rachael Ray better hide her cat and you want to invite me to dinner. Aren’t you?! Trick or Treat!
When British Chef Michael Hales came for a visit, Aunt Jean set out to prove that American food takes the crown. Will it be the English Cheese and Onion Pie or traditional American Mac-n-Cheese that wins the day? And what can Aunt Jean do with a weenie?

The Today show asked your garage sale guru to share tips to help you walk away a happy shopper. “If you are serious about it, look on Craiglist, in the newspaper, and on garage sale websites that aggregate all the local sales to get a general idea of where you’re headed first,” says Bruce Littlefield, lifestyle expert and author of Garage Sale America. You can also avoid wasting time at a dud of a sale by scouting from your car. “If you see multiple people walking away from a sale and they don’t have anything in their hands, it’s time to turn and run,” Littlefield says.
