Have you heard about the “Cinnamon Challenge”? (Maybe you’re trying it this weekend?) This popular Internet meme is a dare game in which a person tries to swallow a tablespoon of cinnamon without vomiting or inhaling it. Thousands of videos of people attempting the feat have been uploaded on YouTube — few succeed. I’ve just been pointed to comedienne GloZell’s attempt. And, well, it cracked me up. Enjoy the laugh and your weekend. I’ll be back on Monday with a smile on my face.

Okay, okay… imagine you’re a kid and you open the door to THIS! (It’s my ultimate last minute Halloween costume that beautifies while horrifies.) Let’s call it the spa package: facial, head wrap, and robe. It took me all of three minutes and is giving me HOURS of FUN! (But will they accept me for my dinner reservation at a foo-foo Manhattan restaurant?) Happy Halloween to all.

Halloween is a dentist’s favorite holiday. Why? Would you believe that over $2 billion is spent each year on Halloween candy?! That’s a whole lot of scary cavities. But since you’re going to run out and buy some (and be judged by the kiddies), let me tell you that chocolate candy bars are rated the #1 Trick or Treaters delight (and Snickers is the absolute fave.) And, in case you’re wondering, there is more than 35 million pounds of candy corn made each year, equaling something like 9 billion kernels. But, hey, at only 3.6 calories, it might be the dieter’s choice. There’s less sugar in a candy corn than in a raisin! Or forgo the calories all together and give yourself a candy corn manicure.

Congratulations to my pal Barbara Corcoran and the other rich ~~sharks~~ stars of ABC’s Shark Tank. They’re renewed for 17 new episodes. Have the next billion dollar idea? Get your idea on by going to casting here. Last season’s pitchers, Michele Kapustka sent me a ball in the mail. Literally, the postlady delivered it! Check out Sendaball and instead of a greeting card, send a ball. That’s funny and fun.

Last night Home Goods (my favorite addiction) had its VIP opening in New York City! (A dangerous two blocks from my apartment.) It was a star-filled night of shopping delight. Gorgeous Real Housewife of New York Kelly Bensimon and I had a great time shopping the pet section. She bought a pink bed for BearBear and I bought a giant furry Octopus for Westminster. AND I gave her the first signed copy of The Bedtime Book for Dogs for Bear, Fluffy, and Chief. Also talked to shoppers Nate Berkus, Alex McCord & Simon van Kempen (bought Moroccan pillows for their love den), Holly Robinson Peete, Danny Seo, and Elie Tahari. FUN!

Wear a bonnet! I dare you!

Have you boiled your “Spring Spheres?” Made your over-the-top bonnet? Unpacked one of last year’s 700 million Peeps? I’m busy planning which part of the chocolate bunny I’ll bite off first. Of course, there’s a poll: 76% of Americans bite the ears first, 5% eat the feet and a weird 4% go for the tail. My favorite thing to make is my washcloth bunnies. Here’s a vintage CBS Early Show moment in which I help Harry Smith learn to craft. By the way, did you know we can thank Anglo-Saxon Goddess Eostre for both the holiday name and Oestrogen, the female hormone. Hide some eggs and have a hoppy Easter!

Wishing you a four leaf clover day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Let me give you a green rundown. My neighborhood restaurant in Hurley, The Hurley Mountain Inn, once again served 12,000 pounds of corn beef and lots of green beer. Oh, and there were parades. So, in cased you missed either of these events, I’ll fill you in: there was suddenly a gas surplus, and as for the parade? Fire truck, fire truck, marching band, fire truck, Boy Scouts, politician, fire truck. I’ve decided that next year I’m crashing it! I’m going to dress like a leprechaun and wait for a float with good music and just step in and dance until the end. Want to come?

American Fun – The Super Bowl

Watch this 1967 newsreel featuring the first Super Bowl ever , which pit The Green Bay Packers against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was played in Los Angeles, and the Packers won 35-10. This year’s game, XLV, the Packers vs. the Steelers and I’ve Got a Feeling that the Black Eyed Peas’ half time performance will be more exciting than the balloons released at the first Super Bowl. Oh, and your chips and salsa and 6-foot sub are nothing compared to these super-sized Guinness World Record holders. Go ahead and try to make 3,556 lbs of nachos like they did last year in Frisco, Texas. It was 48 feet long and made with 300 cases of tortilla chips. Oh, who am I kidding, Westminster and I are watching the Puppy Bowl!

The fruitcake is the laughing stock of Christmas foods. Legendary Tonight Show host Johnny Carson used to joke that there is really only one fruitcake in the world, it is just passed from family to family.
Each January 3rd is “National Fruitcake Toss Day.” The Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce in Colorado hosts “The Great Fruitcake Toss,” in which the dried fruit and nut cake is propelled as far as possible like a track and field shot put. A group of eight Boeing engineers hold the all-time Great Fruitcake Toss record at 1,420 feet, achieved with their “Omega 380,” a mock artillery piece fueled by compressed air, pumped by an exercise bike.
