My friend and neighbor Melissa Leo, the Meryl Streep of the indies, has now stepped into the mainstream and it seems she’s ruffling a few peacock feathers. After stellar performances in 21 Grams and Frozen River, her role in this year’s The Fighter has earned her deserved high praise and numerous awards, including a nomination for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. This week she’s taking heat for placing her own “For Your Consideration” ads in the trades. For all those Hollywood types poo-pooing the move. I say, “Get a life! What’s wrong with a girl believing in herself and having a little fun?”

Today, is the perfect day to tell you that Barbara Corcoran and I have a new book which splashes onto shelves tomorrow: Shark Tales: How I Turned a Thousand Dollars into a Billion Dollar Business. More on that soon. But for now, spread the word, the Sharks are back in the Tank. Shark Tank’s 2nd season premiere is scheduled for ABC on March 25th. I was there for the filming and can tell you it’s bigger, better, and badder… there will be blood in the water, as well as A LOT OF MONEY! American Fun – The Super Bowl

Watch this 1967 newsreel featuring the first Super Bowl ever , which pit The Green Bay Packers against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was played in Los Angeles, and the Packers won 35-10. This year’s game, XLV, the Packers vs. the Steelers and I’ve Got a Feeling that the Black Eyed Peas’ half time performance will be more exciting than the balloons released at the first Super Bowl. Oh, and your chips and salsa and 6-foot sub are nothing compared to these super-sized Guinness World Record holders. Go ahead and try to make 3,556 lbs of nachos like they did last year in Frisco, Texas. It was 48 feet long and made with 300 cases of tortilla chips. Oh, who am I kidding, Westminster and I are watching the Puppy Bowl!

American Hype – Golden Globe Awards

Last night was a star-studded night in Hollywood- the Golden Globe Awards! Some of the fashions were stunning, others not so much (what was up with Helena Bonham Carter’s mismatched shoes?) Host Ricky Gervais hit some nerves with his humor, mocking everyone from Angelina Jolie to Steve Carell. Natalie Portman won her well-deserved award for “Black Swan,” while “The Social Network” ended up stealing the show. If you missed “Glee” star Chris Colfer’s acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor, it’s a must watch. Oscar nominations are out on January 25th! Wanna bet on best picture?

When I Grow Up – Seattle Superhero

I always loved reading superhero comics when I was younger and fancying that I’d grow up to become one. My neighbor is probably still telling people how I always asked him to “hold my cape” (the Member’s Only jacket I draped over my shoulders and snapped around my neck). But what kid doesn’t want to believe in a hero with superpowers who stands for goodness and justice? Well, Spiderman, Batman, Ironman… move on over, because now there’s a real-life “superhero” on the block. Phoenix Jones is masked, costumed and fighting Seattle crime. (Too bad criminals recently broke his nose when he tried to stop a fight.) But Jones isn’t the only superhero roaming the streets trying to do good. There’s a whole bunch of them meeting in their Hall of Justice, a.k.a. The Real Life Super Hero Project. With names like The Vigilante Spider and Good Samaritan, who knows what these real-life superheros could be capable of! Oh, talk to you later, I’ve got my costume to sew!

Dinner Party Talk – The Golden Voice

This New Year has brought us a star in its first week. I’m sure you’ve now heard of Ted Williams, the homeless man with the golden voice. Watch the new team at the CBS Early Show wow us with both the first exclusive interview with Ted and today’s interview with his 92-year-old mother. Here he was last week holding a sign begging for change, but hoping really that someone would ride by and help him pull himself up. Lo and behold, newspaper reporter Doral Chenoweth (always one to give some loose change to the homeless people he comes across) was the angel Ted needed. What I’ve gotten from this amazing story at the start of this New Year, is to keep my eyes and heart open to how I can help a fellow human in need, and perhaps, help them realize their American Dream.

I’ve been crunching for 6 days now awaiting the imminent arrival of my “Situation Shirt.” Yes, MTV’s Ab-centric sensation, “The Situation,” has introduced the “perfect gift for any occasion” – a tank top with a plastic peek-a-boo panel, perfect for showcasing those million dollar abs. I’ll let you know when mine arrives. In the meantime, if you want to start your new year off washed up on the Shore, check out Snooki’s new tome, “A Shore Thing” and watch tonight’s the 3rd Season premiere of “Jersey Shore.” Yes, the world may indeed be coming to a big-haired, flat-ab’d end.

Congratulations to the TWO winners who will share the $355 Mega Million jackpot! You lucky dogs! Tuesday’s real world winning numbers were 4, 8, 15, 25, 47 and 42. But there were 25,587 tickets that matched three of the winning numbers, plus the bonus number. Why? Apparently, Hurley, a character in ABC’s show “Lost”, once won the lottery with those numbers. “Lost” watchers apparently bet it was coming and each of those people win $150! How crazy is that? Finally, watching TV pays off!
