In my book Merry Christmas America (on sale at Amazon!), I give the 5 Easy Steps to a Gorgeous Tree. In case you’re hauling out the holly soon, let me share a few ideas:
1) Decorate away from the wall.
2) String the lights in to the trunk and out along the branches from top to bottom. (I run an extension cord up the trunk and hide it beneath my tree topper.)
3) Hang the garland. Start at the top and work your way down and around. Give it some swag!
4) Hang your biggest ornaments first, then the smallest. Don’t forget the inner branches.
5) Make your tree topper something that makes you and your family happy. Sometimes a tinfoil star made by your littlest is tops!
